2. Make Playoffs in 2017

The Dallas Cowboys are working under the assumption they are a great running back away from developing an elite offense that can carry them deep into the postseason. While this assumption may prove to be correct, it puts a massive amount of pressure and responsibility squarely on the shoulders of the team’s rookie running back as soon as the regular season kicks off.

Fans and the organization alike clearly are not planning on a lengthy learning process for Elliott in year one and expect him to be a significant contributor immediately, which is evident in the contract they offered him. Elliott is now the eighth highest paid back in the league, receiving $6.24 million annually, which ranks him among the NFL’s elite.

If they Cowboys are able to complete a drastic turnaround and make the playoffs after finishing 4-12 the year prior, and Elliott plays an important role in the offense, Zeke will quickly prove that he was deserving of the high selection and subsequent contract. Additionally, a playoff run next season will give Elliott instant credibility and quickly ingratiate him with the fans, providing a certain level a leeway heading into future seasons.
