18. Tim Anderson, Chicago White Sox

After parting with long-time shortstop Alexei Ramirez and then coming to a short-term agreement with Jimmy Rollins, it became clear the White Sox are looking to keep their options open at the position. This was done with good reason, as the talented Tim Anderson is making the jump into Triple A for the first time. If he responds well, he would be a natural choice to bring up to the big leagues this year.

And so far, so good for the 22-year-old former first round pick. He is hitting .287 with eight extra base hits through his first 34 games, while continuing to apply the pressure via his most dangerous skill: his speed. He stole 49 bases last season at Double-A Birmingham, while adding on 21 doubles and 12 triples as well. While he has not turned in that type of performance at the plate yet, Anderson’s speed is an alluring tool that would certainly add a brand new dimension to a competitive White Sox team.

While Rollins has been serviceable at shortstop so far, look for Anderson to see some time there at some point later in the season as the grind of the year intensifies for the 37-year-old.
