1. Julio Urias, Los Angeles Dodgers

Julio Urias is the type of talent that has space made for him at the major league level, and the Dodgers now face the challenge of finding space for their star pitching prospect. It is not one they will take too long to overcome. The club is already looking at potentially starting him in the bullpen, just as a way to get his substantial talent on the MLB roster.

Currently, Urias is making a mockery of minor league competition. He is riding a 22 inning scoreless streak, and is posting a 1.25 ERA on the year. In total, he has worked 36 innings, while striking out 39 in the process. Meanwhile, outside of Clayton Kershaw and Kenta Maeda, the Dodgers’ starting staff has struggled some, with Scott Kazmir, Alex Wood and Ross Stripling all posting ERAs over 4.00 and a 5-8 overall record. Moreover, anticipated starters Brett Anderson and Hyun-Jin Ryu are on the disabled list with no set return date for either.

It makes sense to insert the minor’s top pitcher in the early going, especially with LA looking to find an edge in a tight battle with the San Francisco Giants, who recently took over first place in the NL West. Manager Dave Roberts could have the talented lefty available to dispatch in the rotation soon, or as an option to unleash on an inning by inning basis out of the bullpen. Either way, he is not long for the minors.
