3. Minnesota Wild

The Minnesota Wild are a team that could look to upgrade their offense this off-season after lackluster goal-scoring nearly cost them a playoff berth during the 2015-16 season. They are also a team that could be looking to go all-in for a Stanley Cup with Bruce Boudreau at the helm and Zach Parise and Ryan Suter not getting any younger. Rick Nash could make sense for the Wild, but they’d need to get a little creative to make his cap hit fit.

Minnesota could talk the Rangers into eating some of Rick Nash’s contract if they send over one of their promising defensemen. It likely won’t be Matt Dumba, but Marco Scandella and Jonas Brodin could be in play. Both are talented young defensemen (especially Brodin who is just 21 years old). The Rangers blue line is crying out in desperation for younger legs. Minnesota is in a position to take advantage of that.

A straight swap of Brodin for Rick Nash makes sense for both teams, but either the Wild or the Rangers would need to add more to make it a fair trade. The question is would either side be willing to add to that trade? And how much so?
