10. New York Jets
If this list had been compiled last August, the Jets would have been ranked much higher. There aren’t many scenarios more dysfunctional than having a starting quarterback injured by a teammate during a locker room skirmish. Geno Smith wasn’t simply injured in a fight; then-teammate IK Enemkpali broke his jaw over an alleged unpaid debt.
In some ways, that incident was the nadir of a year of disappointments and distractions. Things had gotten so bad in 2012 that superfan Fireman Ed quit as the team’s unofficial mascot.
His disgust with the team was somewhat understandable. As head coach from 2009-2014, Rex Ryan fueled a media-circus atmosphere and only led his team to playoff appearances in 2010 and 2011. The Jets are also the team that brought the world Mark Sanchez’s butt fumble, Tim Tebow
With Todd Bowles at the helm and signs of promise during the team’s 10-6 2015 season, the Jets could fall off of the dysfunction list in the near future. For now, however, they are still recovering from the Rex Ryan Era and the memory of Geno Smith’s busted jaw are too fresh.
