9. Indianapolis Colts

Unlike the New York Jets, the Colts do not have a long history of egregious dysfunction. 2015, however, brought more news of bickering and discord than news of strong on-field achievement. While the Jets are becoming more functional, the Colts have fallen apart.

The Colts 2015 season was difficult both on and off the field. First, Andrew Luck was plagued by injuries, which weren’t accurately disclosed by team. Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk suggested that General Manager Ryan Grigson had told a “bald-faced lie” when he denied the team knowingly released inaccurate injury reports on their star quarterback.

In addition to this minor scandal, there were reports that head coach Chuck Pagano did not want to return to the organization, reportedly turning down a one-year extension. An unnamed NFL source, via Pro Football Talk, called the relationship between Pagano and Grigson was “toxic.” One source of the discord was allegedly the amount of power Pagano has over personnel decisions, according to USA Today at the beginning of the 2015 season.

After all of the bickering and infighting, the Colts signed Pagano to a four-year extension on January 4, just three days after ESPN reported that the Colts would not retain him.
