6. Detroit Lions

The 2015 Detroit Lions were definitely better off than they were during the Matt Millen era. That isn’t saying much, though. With Millen in charge as president and CEO from 2001-2008, the team won only 31 games. Prior to his departure from the team, “Fire Millen!” was a common rallying cry among fans. Fans of the Lions rivals were known to hold up “Keep Millen” signs.

Compared to the rest of the NFL, however, the Detroit Lions are still very dysfunctional. After starting the season 0-5, head coach Jim Caldwell blamed his players for the poor performance, defending his offensive coordinator. Caldwell told WXYT via MLive.com:

"“From my vantage point, the problem is not what plays are being called. The fact of the matter is offensive coordinator Joe (Lombardi) is calling plays that should work and we’ve just had problems executing.”"

Shortly after Caldwell made these comments, offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi was fired along with team president Tom Lewand and General Manager Martin Mayhew. The mid-season personnel changes seemed to help the team. In the last eight weeks of the season, the team lost only two of their games.

While the Lions showed signs of improvement at the end of the 2015 season, it will take a lot for them to erase their reputation as a losing, dysfunctional, disappointing team.
