Los Angeles Angels: Trading Mike Trout

Once top starter Garrett Richards went down for the season and put the Angeles in a tough spot, trade rumors started to swirl. Could the Angels actually consider the impossible, and entertain the idea of a Trout trade?

The fact of the matter is that Los Angeles should try to blow things up to re-stock the worst farm system in the Majors. Los Angeles sits at 17-22, and the roster didn’t look like much of a contender even before being set back by multiple injuries.

Whatever’s left to sell should be gone at the deadline, particularly Joe Smith and a couple of other relievers. However, finding a trade partner to match Trout’s value is going to be nearly impossible.

Even a massive haul of prospects wouldn’t be enough, and only a couple of teams could realistically put together a package without crippling the entire organization. Boston or the Los Angeles Dodgers could trade young stars in Mookie Betts and Corey Seager plus others respectively, but there wouldn’t be much point for either team.

Los Angeles is better off selling what they can and hoping to either improve in the next couple of years while Trout is still relatively cheap, or hope he signs another extension later on.
