3. Dallas Mavericks

The Dallas Mavericks have never been afraid to spend money and chase big free agents. While they have been spurned more times than not, they have done a good job with roster flexibility to allow themselves the opportunity to go after the big fish each season.

The Mavericks are a team in transition that is still trying to remain competitive around Dirk Nowitzki’s final years in the league. They made it into the playoffs this year, thanks to players coming together and surprising some people, but they’re going to need to get some youth on the roster in free agency.

While a player like Dwight Howard would seem to be their top target, the Mavericks should give thought to a younger alternative in Bismack Biyombo. While Howard is more proven and has a bigger resume of accomplishments, Biyombo wouldn’t command as much money and he’s a piece that Dallas could have in place for a lot longer.

They wanted a center in free agency last year and thought they got one in DeAndre Jordan, but things fell apart and they are still in need. They’ll have a big decision to make at the center spot in free agency.
