2. Johnny Manziel

At this point in his life, former NFL quarterback Johnny Manziel has bigger problems than his disappointing two-year stint as a member of the Cleveland Browns. According to a recent TMZ report, Manziel is so out of control that friends are concerned about his literal survival, not just the viability of his all-but-defunct NFL career.

One reason Manziel has had trouble finding a new NFL home is because he is such a poor teammate. Browns offensive lineman Joe Thomas was gracious in the wake of Manziel’s release from the team, saying via Cleveland.com in February, “It’s a sad end to the story in Cleveland for Johnny. He’s a guy that I personally like. I believe he has a lot of talent. He’s got the talent to be an NFL quarterback, but it obviously hasn’t worked out so far.”

Former head coach Mike Pettine said in May 2014 via CBS, “(Manziel) doesn’t kind of carry [the Johnny Football personality] with him. There’s no diva-type personality there. He’s just another guy. He’s funny, fun to be around and he’s going to work hard and I think that’s something they all respect.”

Pettine spoke too soon. Manziel prioritized partying over his team, and continued to struggle with the same immaturity he displayed at Texas A&M where as a freshman he won the Heisman. The last thing the Browns needed last year was yet another media distraction. Meanwhile, what they needed most, on the field at least, was a quarterback. With Manziel off partying and dodging accusations of domestic violence (there were more of those in his future), he wasn’t there for his team.
