7. Salomon Rondon, F, Venezuela

Following a massive drop in the world rankings over the past couple of years, Venezuela is attempting to usher in a new era under head coach Rafael Dudamel. While even advancing out of the group stage seems like a tall order, Dudamel will have a few talented players to work with, including Rondon.

Rondon quietly had a terrific 2015-16 season with West Bromwich Albion as one of the most underrated strikers in the English Premier League. The 26-year-old headed to West Brom on a club record £12 million transfer fee following a very productive stint at Zenit St. Petersburg and responded with nine goals in 34 games.

That number may not seem all too impressive, but Rondon had basically no support around him on a West Brom squad that managed just 34 goals on the season. Rondon has been more productive at every other stop, including the national team, where he has 15 goals in 48 appearances.

Most recently, Rondon scored in Venezuela’s 1-0 win over Colombia in the 2015 Copa America, the team’s only win of the tournament. Expect Rondon to convert on whatever opportunities he does end up with, as he has shown excellent finishing ability over the years when the service is there.

Rondon doesn’t stand out as much in a tournament loaded with star strikers, but he has the ability to turn a game at any moment and will be one of Venezuela’s best hopes for an upset.
