6. Wes Morgan, D, Jamaica

Rarely does the captain of an English Premier League title squad fly under the radar, but Morgan was under-appreciated while taking a back seat to  others in 2015-16. In the Copa America Centenario, Morgan will be the star of a Jamaica squad which needs to spring an upset to make it out of the group stage.

Most of the credit for Leicester City’s impossible championship run went to Jamie Vardy, who scored 24 goals, and the brilliant play of Riyad Mahrez and N’Golo Kante. However, Leicester’s brilliant defense allowed just 36 goals this season, with Morgan leading the way after spending much of his career as an afterthought in the lower levels of English football.

While Vardy, Mahrez and Kante are household names at this point, Morgan joined them on the PFA Team of the Year and was just as important to Leicester’s success. Even backline mate Robert Huth received more attention, but Morgan’s mix of physical play and smart defending was of massive importance to the Foxes.

At 6-1, 205 pounds, Morgan is a sturdy central defender who has the strength to hold off the world-class strikers he will see at Copa America. Jamaica made the semifinals of last year’s Gold Cup behind the brilliance of a back line that helped keep three straight clean sheets, and will be counting on Morgan to lead a similar run in the Centenario.

Morgan has already made a huge contribution to one underdog run this year, and will get the credit he deserves should he do the same with Jamaica against Mexico and Uruguay.
