High Value SP

Zach Davies-Milwaukee Brewers (7,400): Davies is coming off the best start of his two-year career with the Brewers.  He held the Cardinals scoreless over eight innings to pick up his third win of the season and struck out a career-high nine batters while not issuing a walk and allowing only three hits.  He has allowed two earned runs or fewer in five of his last six starts and has been much better at home (3.41 ERA, 32 K’s in 37 innings) than on the road (7.82 ERA, 6 K’s in 12.2 innings).  He’ll be on the mound at home again tonight as he faces the A’s who rank in the bottom third of the league in most offensive categories and will oppose him with the struggling Sean Manaea. Davies is the best sub 8K play tonight based on his matchup and current form.

Mike Leake-St. Louis Cardinals (7,000):  Leake will face the Reds for the first time in his career after playing the first six seasons in Cincinnati before being traded to the Giants and signing with the Cardinals this offseason.  Leake’s time with his former division-rivals didn’t start well as he was roughed up in losing his first three decisions and watching his ERA balloon to 6.03.  Since then, though, he has adjusted well and suddenly strung together five quality starts in a row to level his record at 4-4 and lower his ERA to 3.82.  He has at least 17 fantasy points in each of his last five starts and will look to continue his recent surge as he faces his former teammates as the Cardinals and Reds meet in Cincinnati for an NL Central showdown.

Michael Pineda-New York Yankees (6,000): Pineda is coming off his most encouraging outing since April, but he’s still high-risk pitching at home at Yankee stadium with a 6.41 ERA.  Pineda fanned eight Tigers in his last start allowing just one run on seven hits in 5.2 innings, and he’ll look to build on that start as he faces the Angels tonight.  He has more upside than any pitcher under 7K, but he’s high-risk based on his struggles throughout this season.
