Shortstop

High-Salary Option: Manny Machado-Baltimore Orioles (5,200): Machado hit his 15th home run of the year last night against the Royals as the Orioles picked up the 4-1 win.  He is a nice pick again tonight against Yordano Ventura who he is 3-9 (.333) against in his career.  He is hitting .259 with a pair of homers and seven RBI over the last week, so roll with Machado if you have the money to spend tonight.

High-Salary Option: Jonathan Villar-Milwaukee Brewers (5,000): When the Brewers offense is cooking, it usually starts with Villar in the leadoff spot.  He has gotten off to a strong start tot he months of June with three homers in his first five games of the month while hitting .300 which has kept his average for the year at .307.  Villar is mostly known for his threat to steal with 21 steals in 55 games this season, and if he is able to get on base tonight against the A’s and Sean Manaea he should be a nice 5K investment at SS.∗∗

Mid-range Option: Xander Bogaerts-Boston Red Sox (4,600): Bogaerts lost his hitting streak on Friday, bounced back with three hits Saturday, and then took another collar going 0-4 on Sunday.  He still comes into tonight’s matchup hitting .345, though, with an OPS just under .900.  Tonight, he’ll face the Giants and Albert Suarez. The matchup is an unusual one since Boston and San Francisco rarely meet, but Bogaerts has been solidly matchup proof for most of the season.

High-Value Option: Chase d’Arnaud-Atlanta Braves (3,300): D’Arnaud was one of y cheap hitters who came through last night going 3-5 with an RBI in Atlanta’s loss to the Padres.  He is hitting. .333 on the season after last night’s production and is 9-26 (.346) over the last week.  He has multiple hits in three of his last six games and can definitely give you some points even though he doesn’t bring a lot of power or speed.  I don’t expect a monster game from d’Arnaud tonight, but he has been consistent enough of a producer to consider him as a nice flier who is probably going to give you something tonight as he faces Colin Rea who has allowed at least three runs in each of his last four starts for the Padres.∗∗

High-Value Option: Darwin Barney-Toronto Blue Jays (2,600): Barney picked up two more hits last night in Detroit and continues to be one of the better cheap SS plays partly due to his solid hitting lately and partly due to his role in a solid offense.  Barney has gone 7-17 over the last week including his third home run of the season. He enters play tonight hitting .337 so roll with him if you need an inexpensive infield option.
