Point guard Jeremy Lin declined his player option with the Charlotte Hornets to become an unrestricted free agent. Here are good five landing spots for Lin.

On Tuesday afternoon, potential free agent point guard Jeremy Lin of the Charlotte Hornets opted out of his player option with the team for 2016-17 to become as unrestricted free agent. Given that Lin played very well as Kemba Walker’s backup in Charlotte last season for head coach Steve Clifford, it would make sense for Lin to again capitalize on a new contract, possibly elsewhere.

Surely, he won’t command the type of deal he got in free agency with the Houston Rockets just a few years ago after the life changing weeks that were Linsanity at Madison Square Garden when he came out of nowhere to star for the New York Knicks, but Lin is at worst a top-tier backup point guard in the NBA and should be paid handsomely for his services.

While Charlotte would have probably liked to have Lin back for 2016-17, the Hornets have five key free agents hitting the market this summer with wing Nicolas Batum, center Al Jefferson, and wing Marvin Williams all ahead of Lin on the Charlotte’s list of top offseason priorities.

Lin will certainly make more than the $2.2 million he walked away from with Charlotte by opting out. Here are five new teams that make a good bit of sense for both Lin financially and his new team’s success at the point guard position.
