South American soccer governing body CONMEBOL confirmed on Wednesday that Brazil will host the 2019 Copa America.

Despite numerous rumors that the United States may become the permanent host of the Copa America, it was confirmed on Wednesday that the prestigious international tournament will indeed be returning to South America in 2019.

In an official statement from the South American soccer governing body CONMEBOL, it was announced that Brazil will host the next edition of the Copa America. The country was originally slated to host last year’s tournament that took place in Chile, but it was moved so the country could focus on the 2014 World Cup and 2016 Olympics in Rio.

“[The United States] been great hosts, just like Chile were last year and like Brazil will be in 2019,” CONMEBOL president Alejandro Dominguez said in the aforementioned statement, via ESPN FC.

“People are enjoying it, the football is making a great show, and hopefully the level of football grows and it reaches all the people.”

Despite Brazil failing to win the World Cup on home soil in the two times that they have hosted the tournament, they have won the Copa America all four times they have held the event. The last time the Copa America took place in Brazil was back in 1989.
