There is no question three-time NFL All-Pro defensive end Dwight Freeney is Canton bound whenever he decides to hang up the spikes for good. The 14-year NFL veteran has played for three teams, most recently the Cardinals and most notably the Indianapolis Colts, where he spent 11 years.
Freeney has made seven trips to the Pro Bowl and was one of the most feared pass rushers in the AFC in his prime with Indianapolis. In his career, Freeney has 119.5 quarterback sacks, 46 forced fumbles and 274 tackles.
While he is certainly past his prime at 36, Freeney is still a valuable rotational pass rusher that could be a huge boost to any team that struggles to get after the opposing quarterback. Freeney had 8.0 quarterback sacks in 2015 as a member of the NFC West Champion Cardinals.
He has visited with a few NFL teams this offseason, most notably the Bengals and the Atlanta Falcons. If Freeney still wants to play for another Super Bowl championship and he can get medical clearance from an NFL team, he’ll be on a Week 1 NFL roster as a strong situational pass rushing veteran.
