High Value SP

Marco Estrada-Toronto Blue Jays (8,300): Estrada has dominated the Orioles throughout this time in Toronto and has very good career numbers against many of the Baltimore hitters. He allowed just one run on six hits in five innings agasint them earlier this season striking out nine, and he’ll look to improve on those results since he’ll be at home in this start while that start happened in Baltimore.  Estrada is 2-1 at Rodgers Centre with an impressive 1.30 ERA at the Rodgers Centre. He’s holding opponents to just a .136 average in Toronto, and he has been pitching especially well lately allowing five hits or fewer in each of his last eight starts while picking up at least five strikeouts in five of those starts and getting the “W” in each of his last three.  The Orioles are hot right now, but Estrada has been quietly very effective all season. He’s a nice mid-range start tonight if you don’t go with one of the big-name aces but aren’t comfortable going too cheap either.

Derek Holland-Texas Rangers (7,400): Holland has strung together some very nice outings for the Rangers over the past month allowing two runs or fewer in each of his last four outings.  He struck out a season-high six in his last start, but is more of a finesse option than an overpowering strikeout-first play.  He will be taking the mound tonight in one of the late games against the Mariners and it will be his second start of the season at SafeCo Park.  In his first start there, he held the M’s scores for 6.2 innings on just four hits to get his first win of the season and will look to get another “W” tonight to improve to 6-4.  Holland isn’t going to go off with a huge start since the K’s don’t pile up for him, but he’s a very solid cheap option in a good matchup if you go cheaper at pitcher to stock up your lineup elsewhere.

Anthony DeSclafani-Cincinnati Reds (6,500): The Reds will activate DeSclafani for his first start of the season today, and he’ll roll out into a good matchup against the A’s.  DeSclafani will be making his first appearance with the Reds this year, but he has good strikeout stuff and can be very effective as he showed last season in 31 starts for Cincinnati.  He totaled 151 K’s in 184.2 innings while going 9-13 with a 4.05 ERA.  He didn’t face the A’s at all since they play in the other League in a different division, but he is a cheap flier with some upside tonight since Oakland’s offense is scuffling and DeSclafani has strikeout stuff.
