2016 NBA Draft: Best pure shooters
By Chris Stone
1. Buddy Hield, SG, Oklahoma
Buddy Hield leaves Oklahoma as the leading scorer in Big 12 history after averaging 25.0 points per game during his final season in Norman. The 22-year old guard converted 45.7 percent of his 322 three-point attempts during his senior year and was a career 39.0 percent shooter from beyond the arc in college. He has a quick release that allows him to get his jumper off in tight situations and is excellent at finding open space on the court during scrambles, offensive rebounds, or in transition.
Hield was by far the best scorer in college basketball this season, finishing with a 66.5 percent true shooting percentage despite taking over 30 percent of his team’s shots when he was on the floor. His 46 point outing on the road against Kansas was one of the best individual performances of the year and allowed him to show off his three-point range and ridiculous efficiency. The exciting thing about Hield is that he has improved immensely during each season at Oklahoma and his much lauded work ethic suggests that he hasn’t hit his ceiling just yet.
The Sooners’ guard will likely be a top 10 pick in June’s NBA draft and his ability to fill it up from deep is the main reason why.
