PG. Detroit. Ray McCallum. 29. player. 149.
Original pick: Archie Goodwin (traded to Phoenix)

Ray McCallum probably isn’t very good, and it seems wild that he would land in the first round of a re-boot like this one. However, the bottom of the 2013 NBA Draft class is less than stellar (to put it mildly) and McCallum has been able to maintain enough value to stick and stay in the NBA across three seasons.

In those three years, the former Detroit-Mercy point guard has logged more than 2,800 minutes in 154 games, and the results have been mixed. McCallum has struggled with his shot, posting a 47 percent true shooting with only 33.5 percent from three-point range. That isn’t sustainable for an NBA rotation player long-term, especially one that is considered by many as a shoot-first point guard.

Still, McCallum is athletic enough and young enough (24 years old) to project well defensively and if he can increase efficiency, there is probably space in the league somewhere. It isn’t necessarily a huge vote of confidence to include him in this post as the number 29 overall pick, but McCallum is a player that many in the league like a great deal.
