30. player. 66.
Original pick: Nemanja Nedovic (traded to Golden State)

Anthony Bennett presents a real argument as the worst number one overall pick in the history of the NBA Draft and it is with tongue placed firmly in cheek that we keep him in the first round here. To be fair, the options were very ugly for this final selection, but Bennett has done absolutely nothing at the NBA level to prove his way back into the first round in a “re-do” scenario.

In 128 NBA games, Bennett holds a ghastly 44.4 percent true shooting that includes 38.8 percent from the field, 25.6 percent from three and only 65.7 percent from the free throw line. Though he was billed as an uber-athletic rebounder coming out of UNLV, Bennett has been only average in that particular category, and he often appears listless and lost on the defensive end.

Sound good to you?

There is a soft spot in my heart for Bennett, as he never should have been the number one pick and everyone knew it. Cleveland shocked the world by sending his name to the podium on that night, and he immediately encountered conditioning and injury issues as a result of asthma and other physical ailments. That isn’t to say that Bennett never had a chance to recover, but it was an ugly start, and once the ball was rolling downhill, he wasn’t able to stop it.

Anthony Bennett just turned 23 years old and if you squint hard enough, you can see the development into at least an end-of-bench NBA player. We just haven’t seen it.
. PF. UNLV. Anthony Bennett
