9. Jakob Poeltl

Pronunciation – Yakob Poh-dle

Another big man that is expected to go high in the draft is Utah center Jakob Poeltl. He has yet another unique name.

While the common assumption is to pronounce Jakob as Jacob, the “j” in his name makes a “y” sound and Poeltl is pronounced sort of like poodle, but with an “oh” sound instead of an “oo” sound.

The Austrian native turned a lot of heads in his time at Utah, because of his ability to score the basketball in a variety of ways. He has drawn comparisons to former Utah center Andrew Bogut.

Where Poeltl might differ from Bogut is the fact that he has shown in pre-draft workouts an ability to hit a little bit of an outside shot. He has the size and the frame to excel as a center at the next level.

While there isn’t any one thing that he does better than the other, he is well-rounded all around and if he can continue to work on his offensive moves, it will only make him better going forward in the league.

Add in the fact that he has a fun name to say and Poeltl will quickly catch on at the next level.
