AL. West. Los Angeles Angels. 1. player. 102.

The Los Angeles Angels have been a mess in 2016. They have dealt with injuries at multiple positions, including losing over half of their starting pitchers due to arm ailments.

While the pitching has been mediocre, the offense has also been pretty subpar, especially at the middle infield positions. The Angels lost shortstop Andrelton Simmons for nearly a month, but he struggled before his thumb injury. Starting second baseman Johnny Giavotella hasn’t set the world on fire either. Gregorio Petit had taken over at shortstop for Simmons and performed well, and likely will spell Giavotella on occasion, but he can’t be relied on.

Bringing in Jose Reyes wouldn’t be a bad way of placing a band-aid on this situation. The Angels would sign him to a minor league deal or a cheap major league contract, and add him to the 40-man roster.

However much production Reyes would bring to the Angels lineup is unknown. He wouldn’t help them rise from their 28-37 record, but could be a slight upgrade at second base. The former New York Met doesn’t have the necessary range at shortstop anymore, and the Angels gave up a haul for Simmons in the offseason, so he isn’t going anywhere.

If Reyes doesn’t do anything for the lowly Angels, they can simply let him go and try someone younger at second base. It wouldn’t be a bad risk to take.
