169.
Original pick: Clint Capela

When he made his debut in Philadelphia, K.J. McDaniels became an internet darling in short order. The former Clemson forward emerged quickly as a second-round pick after gaining notoriety for his unique contract agreement with the Sixers, and McDaniels capitalized on the opportunity for playing time with some highlight performances.

Then, he just kind of vanished.

Philadelphia “sold high” on McDaniels, moving on from the 6-foot-6 forward after he averaged 1.9 blocks and 1.3 steals per 36-minutes over 50-plus games, and he landed in Houston. Then, over more than a full season, McDaniels appeared in 47 games and when he did play, his offensive shortcomings were quite evident.

With all of that on the table, he remains an intriguing prospect. Offensively, McDaniels is something of a mess in that he is undersized as a power forward but he doesn’t present the skills needed to flourish in a swingman role. His jump shot appears to be broken, and McDaniels would need to find a Tony Allen-like level of defensive impact to shine through.

In my mind, that is still possible but McDaniels’ lack of offensive upside lands him here.
.
