77.
Original pick: C.J. Wilcox

It would be fun if Dwight Powell could shoot. Really, it would be.

Powell, who turns 25 years old in late July, is a very nice player in a number of ways. At nearly 7 feet tall, he is extremely athletic and rangy, and Powell has been able to use that size and burst to become a nice defensive option for the Dallas Mavericks. On the offensive side of things, Powell has attacked the offensive glass and used his size effectively in setting screens and opening lanes for others.

The trouble is that, again, he can’t shoot.

Powell isn’t good enough around the rim to consistently create his own offense, and when he has tried to step out and fire away from distance, it hasn’t gone well. Not every big man in the NBA has to be able to shoot, but because Powell is so limited elsewhere offensively and not that exceptional in any one defensive area, it is something of a conundrum.

He is an older prospect that is closer to his ceiling than most, and that is why Dwight Powell lands here. In a vacuum, though, he is a better player than this right now.
. PF. Stanford. Dwight Powell. 28. player
