1. Tyler Ulis, PG, Kentucky

If Kentucky’s Tyler Ulis were 6-2 instead of 5-9, he would be talked about as a top five pick in this draft class. His head coach, John Calipari, has called him the best floor general that he’s ever coached, a list that includes NBA point guards like Brandon Knight, Derrick Rose, and John Wall. Even as a freshman, Ulis was so well-respected among his peers that the NBA prospects from that Wildcats’ class chose Ulis as the teammate they’d go to war with. Despite his small stature, Ulis will no doubt have a strong presence in an NBA locker room right away.

As Kentucky’s primary ball-handler as a sophomore, Ulis led one of the top five offenses in the country. He is excellent at probing defenses in the lane he can score with some creativity or find open teammates. He finished the season with an assist rate of 34.3 percent while averaging 7.6 assists per 40 minutes, a mark that ties him with Kris Dunn for second best among college point guard prospects. Ulis is also an excellent decision maker with the ball in his hands. He has the best assist-to-turnover ratio of any collegiate prospect in the class, dishing out 3.57 assists for every one turnover as a sophomore.

Due to his size, Ulis may not ever be more than a career NBA backup point guard, but he’s still the best floor general this class has to offer because of his commanding presence and ability to make his teammates better.
