Five possible replacements for Chicago White Sox manager Robin Ventura
2. Don Cooper
Another logical choice here, as nobody knows the White Sox’ organization as well as current pitching coach Don Cooper.
Cooper has been in the White Sox organization since 1988, where he was a minor league pitching coordinator and pitching coach at many levels for numerous years. He was hired as the team’s pitching coach in 2002 and held that title ever since.
Cooper is considered to be one of the best pitching coaches in all of baseball, as he has regularly taken reclamation projects and made them strong members of the team’s pitching staff.
While his managing experience is extremely limited (two games filling in at the end of 2011 before Ventura took over), I could certainly see the White Sox falling back on a familiar face if they decide to part ways with Ventura.
Renteria may make more sense to take over the job as the team’s current bench coach, but Coop is obviously highly regarded by the organization. He will undoubtedly be in the mix if he is interested in taking on the extra responsibility.
