Shortstop

High-Salary Option Manny Machado-Baltimore Orioles (3,800): Machado went 3-5 last night as the Orioles closed out their series in Boston with a win.  He has gone 9-27 (.333) over the last week, but he has really brought the production to his fantasy owners with his extra base hits with three doubles and two homers during that timespan.

On the season, Machado is hitting .308 but his extra-base hits help buoy his OPS all the way up to .974. Macho and the O’s host the Jays this weekend and start their series tonight against Aaron Sanchez.∗∗

Mid-Range Option: Jonathan Villar-Milwaukee Brewers (3,400): Villar is a good play again tonight as he and the Brewers look to make it two in a row over the Dodgers in LA. Last night, he helped them get an 8-6 win with a two-run homer while going 2-5 with two runs scored, two RBI, and a stolen base.

After a rough patch earlier this month, Villar has heated back up lastly hitting safely in five straight and going 8-20 (.400) with a double, homer, three RBI, and a pair of stolen bases.  He offers a nice speed/power blend in one of the late games tonight, so give him a look at 3,400 tonight.∗∗∗

Mid-Range Option: Didi Gregorius-New York Yankees (3,000): Gregorius has been heating up in June going 18-53 (.340) with a pair of homers and four doubles.  He has been even hotter (9-20, 450) over the last week and hit one of those homers last night in a 4-1 win over the Twins.

Tonight, he’ll get a good matchup against Pat Dean, and don’t be scared off by the lefty-lefty appearance.  Gregarious actually splits better against lefties and is hitting .368 off them this season. He’s swinging a hot bat, so he’s my favorite option at 3K.∗∗∗

High-Value Option: Gregorio Petit-Los Angeles Angels (2,600)Petit continues to be a good cheap play and is 15-40 (.375) this month.  He has anchored the bottom of the Angels lineup all month, but he’s putting up plenty of production despite hitting out of the ninth spot in the order.

Petit and the Angels are in Oakland for the weekend and open the series tonight facing Kendall Graveman who has only completed six innings in one of his last seven starts. Petit is a nice way to get some production if you go  cheap at SS.
