10 Best NBA Draft fashion decisions of last decade

5. Jerryd Bayless (2008)
The 2008 Draft saw a departure from the usual black or grey ensembles, as a decent number of draftees found put on their best tan, white, or cream suits for the occasion. While Jerryd Bayless’ all-white suit wasn’t exceptionally special, so what was it that set him apart from the others? It’s the shoes! It’s gotta be the shoes.
White shoes are tough for anyone to pull off, especially due to the high risk of getting them dirty at any moment in time. Bayless, however, managed to make it all the way to his Kodak moment with David Stern without so much of a speck touching him. Several props are in order for the former Arizona Wildcat.
Side note: Have you ever seen the movie The Wonderful Ice Cream Suit? In it, a group of men – including a hyper-grungy, pre-Battlestar Galactica Edward James Olmos – split the purchase of a white suit that brings luck to anyone who wears it. Bayless’ suit looks just like the one from that movie, so it’s would be quite the interesting plot development if he and some of his friends bought the suit and wear it for luck whenever necessary.
After all, it would probably explain his selection as a lottery pick that year. That’s not a knock against Bayless’ talent, because he can definitely play. It just seems weird that he would be chosen over guys like J.J, Hickson, Ryan Anderson, and Robin Lopez. Alas, as they say, hindsight is 20/20.
