The location and date for the 2017 WWE Royal Rumble have officially been announced

One of the most exciting events annually in WWE is without question the WWE Royal Rumble. Not only is it arguably the most unique and storied match type in the company and maybe even in all of pro wrestling, but there is also the chance to see 30 superstars duke it out and to see the surprises and returns. Now we know when and where fans will be watching the 2017 WWE Royal Rumble happening from.

Ahead of Money in the Bank on Sunday, reports began to surface that WWE will move the 2017 Royal Rumble to the Staples Center in Los Angeles, CA. Moreover, the event will be held on Jan. 22, 2017. This comes after they held the 2016 Rumble in Orlando, FL, which would obviously not have made sense as a repeat location for the Royal Rumble considering that WrestleMania 33 is slated for Orlando next year.

What’s interesting about moves like this from WWE is that it opens up many possibilities for them in terms of the surprises, spectacles, and so on that they can pull off at a show like the Royal Rumble. It’s the same reason having SummerSlam at Barclay’s Center is such a smart move.

By holding the WWE Royal Rumble in Los Angeles for 2017, you open the door for big celebrities to make appearances and even for former superstars that have now taken residence in the big city to return as well. It’s a wise move in that regard while also being a city capable of hosting such big crowds and being made for big moments like the Rumble.
