High Salary SP

Clayton Kershaw-Los Angeles Dodgers (13,000): In a night full of aces, it’s impossible to argue against going with the top-salary on the stack as Clayton Kershaw has been straight-up dominant all season for LA.  He is 10-1 coming into his start tonight with an absolutely crazy 0.66 WHIP and 1.58 ERA to go with 133 strikeouts in 108 innings.  He has struck out at least ten batters in nine of his last 11 starts, and has been especially dominant at home where he has held opponents to a minuscule .144 batting average.

Tonight, he’ll take the hill against the Nationals for the first time this season as he duels Stephen Strasburg. Last  season, he went 2-0 against Washington while holding the Nationals scoreless for 16 innings and allowing six hits to go with 22 strikeouts.  Kershaw is a virtual lock to deliver a ton of fantasy points, but his salary means you’ll be shopping cheap at the rest of your positions.∗∗∗

Steven Wright-Boston Red Sox (9,400): If you don’t go with the aces at the top of the salary pool, the best upper-mid play tonight is Steven Wright who takes the mound for the Red Sox tonight against the White Sox.  Wright comes in 8-4 having picked up a W in each of his last five starts while leading the AL with a 2.22 ERA.  Wright has gone at least seven innings in five of his last six starts and has a decent strikeout rate for a knuckleballer.

Wright took a hard-luck loss against the White Sox earlier this season in Chicago allowing two runs on three hits in a 4-1 defeat, but he’ll look to level his record against them tonight as he takes the hill at Fenway where he should get some good backing from the Red Sox potent offense as he duels with Miguel Gonzalez. ∗∗

Josh Tomlin-Cleveland Indians (8,700): The Cavs aren’t the only feel-good story in Believe-land–the Indians have climbed into first place and remain a half-game ahead of the Royals.  Tonight, they’ll look to Josh Tomlin as they open their series against the Rays who have scored the sixth-fewest runs in the MLB this season and have scored four runs or fewer in five straight games while hitting .231 as a team over the last week.

Tomlin should be able to keep their bats quiet at Progressive Field tonight.  He has allowed two earned runs or fewer in five of his last six starts and comes into tonight 8-1 with a 3.27 ERA.  Tomlin doesn’t pile up strikeouts like Kershaw or even at the Steven Wright rate, but he does work around trouble well and give his team a good chance to win which seems to be the new trend in “The Land.”∗∗
