FanDuel daily picks: Fantasy baseball lineup-June 20
High Value SP
Nathan Karns-Seattle Mariners (7,900): Karns is a bit over-priced, but he is in a good matchup against the struggling Mike Pelfrey and should have a good shot at a win. Karns hasn’t been going deep into games lately and has reached the sixth inning just once in his last six starts. The upside, though, with Karns is that he is piling up good strikeout numbers with 75 in his 71 innings this season and at least five K’s in 12 of his 13 starts including each of his last four. Karns should be set up for a W and some solid strikeouts in Detroit tonight, but he’ll need to get through six on a more regular basis before he’s an option I love for DFS. ∗
Doug Fister-Houston Astros (7,600): Fister and the Astros host the Angels to start the week, and Fister will take the mound tonight looking for a win in his fourth straight start. He has lowered his ERA in each of his last five outings and is now 7-3 with a solid 3.26 ERA. He has turned in an official quality start in four straight as well allowing two earned runs or less and going at least six innings.
Fister’s most impressive start during that run may have been his last outing when he beat the Cardinals in St. Louis while allowing just two runs on five hits in 7.1 innings while striking out six. He doesn’t pile up K’s, but he is effective enough to be a good option at this price point especially against the Angels who he held to just one earned run in six innings just four starts ago at the end of May. ∗∗∗
Derek Holland-Texas Rangers (6,800): Holland is a risky play tonight, but it has nothing to do with his current form. He and the Rangers are taking on the slugging Orioles who can definitely put a charge into any opposing starters ERA.
Holland had been rolling before his las two starts when he was knocked around a bit by the Mariners and Athletics on the road. Tonight, he’ll be back home where his is 3-1 on the season with a 3.33 ERA. Holland does pitch to contact quite a bit, so he’s risky against an Orioles team that has plenty of power bats. The Rangers lineup has been rolling just as much, though, so he could get a win if he’s able to get back in the quality start groove he was in before his two most recent outings.∗∗
