Catcher

High-Salary Option: Buster Posey-San Francisco Giants (3,800): Posey took the weekend off from catching duties playing DH for two games in Tampa.  He will return to behind the plate tonight as the Giants continue their road trip as they head to Pittsburgh.

Posey has been on fire since returning from a thumb injury and is 12-23 (.522) over the last week with a pair of doubles and four RBI.  Tonight, he faces Jeff Locke of the Pirates who should be a good matchup for Post who has hit lefties well this season going 19-62 (.306) with two homers and an .897 OPS.  If you have the cash to spend on a catcher, Posey’s a nice bat to build around at a sometimes-tricky spot behind the plate. ∗∗∗∗

Mid-range Option: Chris Ianetta-Seattle Mariners (2,600): Ianetta went 0-7 in the two games in Boston, but he could be set up to bounce back tonight as he and the Mariners head to Detroit.  He comes into tonight’s game 7-15 (.467) against Detroit starter Mike Pelfrey in his career and has a pair of home runs against the veteran righty as well. Pelfrey is 1-7 on the season with a 4.79 ERA, so stacking up the Mariners lineup is a good option to consider for tonight. Give Ianetta a look based on his career history against Pelfrey as long as he gets the starting nod again tonight.∗∗

High-Value Option: Willson Contreras-Chicago Cubs (2,200): Contreras will get his first MLB start on Monday against the Cardinals as he works with John Lackey to try to take the first game of the series at Wrigley Field.

Contreras did get his first MLB at-bat and hit yesterday crushing a home run as a pinch hitter in Chicago’s 10-5 win.  Contreras was destroying Triple-A as well hitting .350 before being called up.  Look for Contreras’s value to skyrocket if he gets regular playing time int he Chicago lineup, but get him at this reduced price while you can.∗∗
