First Baseman

High-Salary Option: Anthony Rizzo-Chicago Cubs (3,900): If you’re spending big at 1B tonight, Rizzo is the way I would go since he and the Cubs offense are firing on all cylinders as they take on the Cards and Jaime Garcia tonight.

Rizzo has homered in three of his last four games and is hitting  .386 this month with six homers and 16 RBI.  He has raised his average for the season to .272 and has an impressive 1.016 OPS  in 102 at-bats in Wrigley Field.∗∗∗

Mid-range Option: Hanley Ramirez-Boston Red Sox (3,100): HanRam is coming around after an early-June slump and is 7-22 (.318) over the last week with a double and a tape-measure home run helping him to get to five RBI.  He has hit safely in six of his last seven games and has picked his average up to .273 on the season.   He’s a nice value at this price point against Miguel Gonzalez who he has gone 3-7 against in his career including a pair of homers and four RBI.∗∗∗

High-Value Option: David Freese-Pittsburgh Pirates  (2,200): Freese has been in and out of the Pirates lineup lately losing time to Jung Ho Kang and John Jaso, but I expect him to get the call tonight with lefty Madison Bumgarner on the hill for the Giants.  When he has played, Freese has actually been hitting pretty well and is 10-34 (.294) with four doubles and a homer in his action this month. He has also had some success against MadBum in the past going 4-8 with a double and a home run.
