Second Baseman

High-Salary Option: Matt Carpenter-St. Louis Cardinals (4,200): Carpenter and the Cards are headed into a tough series against the Cubs having dropped five in a row. They’ll need their offense to get going against John Lackey tonight starting with Matt Carpenter who has actually been hitting well from the top of the lineup.

Carpenter is 8-15 (.533) with six walks over the last week and is 19-45 (.422) so far in the month of June with six doubles, a home run, and seven RBI.  Carpenter has hit safely in 12 straight games and seems to be fully over a finger injury which cost him a pair of games last weekend.∗∗

High-Salary Option: Robinson Cano-Seattle Mariners (4,000): Cano stayed hot over the weekend and finished the M’s series in Boston 5-13 including a home run.  He is 26-80 (.325) in June with three doubles and four homers, and I like his matchup against Mike Pelfrey better than Carpenter’s against John Lackey. Cano has actually not hit Pelfrey well in the past (just 3-17), but he’s hot enough right now to overlook that past as he and the M’s head to Motown. ∗∗∗∗

Mid-Range Option: Rouged Odor-Texas Rangers (3,500): Odor has hit safely in seven straight games and is 11-29 (.379) over the last week including three homers and four RBI.  He has scored a run in seven straight games as well and is becoming a force in the middle of the red-hot Rangers lineup. Tonight, he’ll look to keep rolling as he faces Kevin Gausman of the Orioles in Arlington after going 5-12 against the O’s in the first series between these two teams earlier this season.∗∗∗

High-Value Option: Jurickson Profar-Texas Rangers (2,900): The Rangers will be glad to get back home and have another spot to squeeze in their many bats which should let Profar back into the lineup after he has been forced to come off the bench in three of Texas’s last four games.  He came through with a big two-run single in the eighth as a pinch hitter yesterday and raised his average to .349 on the season.

Look for Profar to be back at the top of the Rangers lineup tonight against Gausman who Profar has only faced once in the past when he connected for an RBI double. If Profar is leading off for such a potent lineup, he’s a great play under 3K.∗∗
