2016 NBA Draft Style Guide: Do’s and don’ts
Don’t embroider the lining of your jacket.
Having a tailor (or JC Penny) stitch a meaningful bit of fabric on the inside of your suit may be a great idea for a wedding or prom, but not on a red carpet. In the past few years we’ve seen college jerseys and tank emoji’s sewn into suits. Spreading your jacket open as you make your walk to stage like you are about to sell Adam Silver a bootleg copy of Captain America: Civil War is not a good look. Let’e be real, the NBA Draft outfit isn’t a scrapbook, so don’t wear a suit with commissioned commemorative prints.
The worst culprit may have been Frank Kaminsky, who used his NBA debut to push a partnership with JC Penny. The big box store helped embroider his nickname on the inside of his jacket. The outfit caught more than a few laughs and headlines. It’s an all right look for an NBA player that looks like the grown up version of a backyard baseball cartoon, but not if you want to be taken seriously in this league. And anyways, the trick has been played and then played again. Even if the jacket lining was cute for some, it’s been done. The last thing you want to be caught in is last year’s style.
