1. A New Era in Chicago

More than anything, trading Rose away allows the Bulls to move on. He was a great player for the team who will always be a hometown hero, but the distraction of having Rose on the roster and under-performing weighed down the entire franchise.

Now, the Bulls can move on and find players who will fit well alongside Butler and in Fred Hoiberg’s system. Butler, Lopez, Nikola Mirotic, Doug McDermott, Taj Gibson, Tony Snell and Bobby Portis are a solid start for the Bulls, and they have resources to continue to build well.

They are likely to be strong players in free agency, with an emphasis on outside shooting and athleticism to be expected. Regardless, a fresh start is exactly what this franchise needed, and they were never going to get that fresh start with Rose on the roster.

It may not be a quick turnaround, but the Bulls are undoubtedly in a better position now than when they started the day on Wednesday.
