1. No risk

Without a solid backcourt for the 2016-17 season, the New York Knicks ran a high risk of missing out on the playoffs for the fourth straight season. Last year, the Knicks improved due to the emergence of Porzingis, and with a solid NBA talent like Rose on the roster for the upcoming season, they could be a playoff contender.

With Rose, there really is no risk to the Knicks. He is in the final year of his contract, which gives the Knicks the ability to try him out for a year to see if they want to give him a new contract after the season. If it does not work out, they can cut bait, and try to capitalize on the draft pick they received in the trade.

Prior to the 2016-17 season, the NBA salary cap is going to expand up to an expected $94 million dollars, which is a 34 percent increase year-over-year. The Knicks will have the money to spend, so locking up Rose could make New York an attractive destination for other free agents.

Rose is also playing for a contract himself, so he will be apt to show teams he can play a full slate of games. Rose also is always a top jersey seller, so the already rich Knicks will have another golden goose to sell jerseys and tickets.

The trade is definitely a win for the New York Knicks and their fans. If Rose plays up to his potential, they could be playing playoff basketball as soon as next year. If not, they part ways, so the Knicks really cannot lose in this situation.
