Cole Hamels-Texas Rangers (9,900): Hamels is the most expensive option on the board for tonight since he is the closest thing to an “Ace” on the mound tonight.  Hamels has pitched like a #1 starter lately allowing three, two, one, and zero runs in his last four starts while pitching exactly seven innings in each of those outings.  He has improved to 7-1 on the year with a 2.88 ERA and 87 strikeouts in 90.2 innings.

Hamels doesn’t pile up strikeouts like Clayton Kershaw, for sure, but he does pitch effectively while being backed by an impressive Rangers lineup. Tonight, he’ll have to hold the Reds in check at home in Globe Life Park in Arlington, but he’s in a good matchup against Reds’ starter Dan Straily who struggled his last time out.∗∗∗

Jose Quintana-Chicago White Sox (8,800): Quintana gets the start tonight at Fenway where the once-mighty Red Sox offense has struggled lately.  There’s a chance Boston breaks out of it tonight, but they’ve struggled against lefties this season going just 5-6 against left-handed starters.

Quintana has allowed three runs or fewer in four of his last five starts and eight of his last ten.  While his record has slid from 5-1 to 5-7 he hasn’t been pitching horribly.  He usually goes at least seven innings and is averaging just under a strikeout per inning (87 K in 92.1 IP).  He comes into tonight with a very nice 1.08 WHIP and at least six strikeouts in four of his last five outings. ∗∗∗
