1. Trusting the Process hasn’t worked just yet

Though we could dice up the games of Brandon Ingram and Ben Simmons for hundreds of more words, the chief reason that Ingram isn’t going to be the No. 1 overall pick is actually the fault of the Philadelphia 76ers and specifically Sam Hinkie. If “Trusting the Process” had been any kind of fruitful endeavor over the past few years, the Sixers would likely be in the need of a player like Ingram that would fit in quite well on the wing.

Instead, though, the Sixers have failed time and again in the draft to the point that they’ve quite publicly been looking to trade two of their recent lottery picks in Jahlil Okafor and Nerlens Noel this season. As such, they are still searching for a transcendent talent that can really make The Process worthwhile and even somewhat functional in Philly. And despite all of the potential that Brandon Ingram has, the path for Simmons to be that kind of player is much more apparent than Ingram’s would be in that situation.

So really, if you were hoping and praying that Ingram would be the No. 1 overall pick, there are plenty of reasons that you could point to. But the crux of the issue is quite simply that the 76ers have been so bad that they still need a superstar and Ben Simmons seems more qualified to be that guy sooner than later.
