San Antonio Spurs – James Anderson (2010)

James Anderson was undoubtedly a quality college player over the course of his career with the Oklahoma State Cowboys. He showed the ability to score quite well and to be a playmaker for his teammates. Though he wasn’t considered a lottery pick, wasn’t an unreal athlete, and didn’t have supreme size, there were people who believed that he’d be able to carve out a role for himself in the NBA as he entered the 2010 draft. The San Antonio Spurs were among those who believed such things.

Unfortunately, the Spurs found out relatively quickly that Anderson just really isn’t an NBA player. He was a guy that only really knew how to score as a ball-dominant presence and even he couldn’t succeed in the Spurs system. He was shipped out of San Antonio just 2.5 years after being the No. 20 pick and never averaged more than 3.8 points per game while with the Spurs despite his prowess in college.

If this seems like a reach for an unpopular pick, that’s because it definitely is. There’s a reason that the Spurs are the Spurs and why people respect the organization the way they do. They don’t miss like many teams often do and this only highlights that fact.
