38. Skal Labissiere has been locked into this No. 11 selection for quite some time — it just makes sense for Orlando if he’s still on the board. The Magic’s current big man Nikola Vucevic is an offensive monster, but quite the opposite on the defensive end. Skal can help shore up some of those deficiencies as he projects to be an elite rim protector at the next level. At 7-0 with a nearly 7-3 wingspan Labissiere should be able to assimilate rather quickly on the defensive end in the NBA.
He came into his freshman year with just as much — if not more — hype as Ben Simmons but fizzled early at Kentucky, before coming on late and finishing strong. Coach Cal figured out later in the year that Skal needed to be in the pick-and-roll with Tyler Ulis and his game started to finally show those flashes that earned all that hype. He finished the season averaging 6.6 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.6 blocks in just under 16 minutes a night. He also started to show his adept shooting touch both around the rim and out to 18 feet as the pick-and-pop man in the PnR.

Labissiere is 20-years old but has gone through a multitude of life experiences already, including escaping a deadly earthquake in his native Haiti to make it to this point. While he’s not a top-5 pick any longer, the young project still has plenty of potential for teams to get excited about and the Magic can certainly use the assistance when it comes to rim protection.

To read more about Skal Labissiere, <a href=.
