64. Juan “Juancho” Hernangomez has enjoyed his pre-draft time in the United States so far as his stock has steadily risen since he arrived. He’s now gone from an early 2nd round pick to a mid-late 1st round selection and a ton of it is based off his workouts. He’s 20-years old and 6-9, possessing the ability to play small forward and power forward. He played last season in the Spanish ACB, which is widely considered the second best league in the world next to the NBA.
Juancho prefers to play power forward and this allows him take advantage of mismatches, taking larger opponents off the dribble and finding open space for his gorgeous 3-point stroke as well. Right now he projects as a solid pick-and-pop option a la Omri Casspi for the Sacramento Kings. Once he gets confidence his role could expand as well, just as we saw with Casspi this past season.

The Pistons had success with Marcus Morris as this type of player last season, so Stan Van Gundy would already have a blueprint for how to employ Hernangomez into his rotation. There are holes in Juan’s defense that will need to be worked on, but SVG will certainly drill those in quite early and time will tell if he can crack the rotation as a rookie.

To read more about Juan Hernangomez, <a href=.
