Through the omnipotent lenses of 20/20 hindsight, why did the Milwaukee Bucks trade Brandon Knight to the Phoenix Suns to acquire Michael Carter-Williams of the 76ers a year and a half ago? Milwaukee hasn’t been the same team since switching point guards and has to honestly address the position sooner of later.

While Knight has been hurt with the Suns, Carter-Williams hasn’t been the point guard protegé Bucks head coach Jason Kidd had hoped for. Carter-Williams jumper remains broken and turnovers are a rampant part of the offense with him running the point. It’s gotten to the point where Kidd prefers to see star player Giannis Antetokounmpo doing it all at the point forward.

Though the Bucks are probably in the market for somebody like Matthew Dellavedova in 2016 NBA free agency, they’ll have to replace Carter-Williams by next summer when he hits his own free agency. The Bucks should be solid elsewhere with Antetokounmpo becoming an All-Star this winter, but a solid veteran point guard makes Milwaukee a dangerous playoff team.

Besides a glaring need at starting point guard and financial incentives, two reasons that Rose would consider playing for his former Central Division rival in the Bucks are that Kidd would be his coach and the proximity of Milwaukee to Rose’s native Chicago.

If Rose gets homesick, but can’t exactly go home to a rebuilding Bulls team, he’ll be able to play on a competitive playoff team in Milwaukee, starring at point guard in a new era of Bucks basketball.
