While the Philadelphia 76ers missed out on acquiring a point guard they really wanted to run their offense in former Atlanta Hawk Jeff Teague, now with his hometown Indiana Pacers, one has to believe the 76ers are done tanking and will look to fix their quagmire at point guard as soon as humanly possible.

Philadelphia is going to draft a skilled ball handler in a potential All-Star point forward Ben Simmons with the No. 1 overall pick in Thursday’s NBA Draft. Simmons should be able to aid the 76ers’ inability to take care of the basketball as early as day one with the club. However, Simmons could use a veteran point guard to play alongside him as he grows in his early 20s.

One guy that will be available in 2017 NBA free agency is New York’s Rose. Rose plays with the flash long associated with popular 76ers Hall of Fame point guard Allen Iverson. While Rose won’t be in his prime like Iverson was for the 76ers, Philadelphia is a great basketball town that would love to see a great point guard in Rose help turn around this lengthy rebuilding project.

Whether or not it is this summer, eventually the 76ers will have to pay competent veterans to come play for their basketball team, with the salary cap on the up and up. Sure, the 76ers might have to overpay to land somebody like Rose, but he’d be a great fit in helping turn around a losing franchise. Keep in mind he already did that with the Bulls in the late 2000s.
