Shortstop

High-Salary Option: Manny Machado-Baltimore Orioles (3,900): Machado will return from his suspension today against the Rays, and he’ll look to pick up where he left off.  He collected multiple hits in three straight games before he started serving his suspension on Sunday and had at least 15 fantasy points in five of his previous seven contests.  Machado also makes sense since he’ll be returning at home against the Rays facing lefty Matt Moore. While Machado’s career numbers against Moore are bad, he has a 1.039 OPS against lefties this season and should be the first option if you have big money to spend at short.∗∗∗∗

High-Salary Option: Zack Cozart-Cincinnati Reds (3,800): If you want to see Machado back in action before buying in, check out Zack Cozart instead as he and the Reds host the Padres again tonight.  Cozart has been extremely successful lately atop the Cincinnati lineup and is 8-25 (.320) over the last week with three doubles, two homers, and five RBI.  He has hit safely in seven straight, and I think he’ll be a solid option tonight in a high-scoring game at Great American.∗∗

Mid-Range Option: Trevor Story-Colorado Rockies (3,300): Story took the league by storm early in the season, but he’s showing he’s no flash in the pan as the season continues.  He is still hitting .263 for the season and .273 this month.  He is at home tonight at Coors Field which is always a plus for a hitter, and he is 2-3 with two doubles against tonight’s opposing starter Archie Bradley.  Story enters tonight with a very impressive .869 OPS, and he’s a great value at just over 3K. ∗∗∗∗

High-Value Option: Stephen Drew-Washington Nationals (2,800)Drew has had success when he has been in the lineup this month and is 9-18 with three homers and eight RBI in his limited time.  He is still hitting just .257 on the year, but his recent run of production makes him worth a gamble tonight against the Brewers and Zach Davies who has struggled a bit with Lefties from time to time this season.

High-Value Option: Jordy Mercer-Pittsburgh Pirates (2,300)Mercer has an eight-game hitting streak and is 9-25 (.360) over the past week.  He doesn’t have a ton of power or speed, but he usually gets the start and can pick up countable stats at a very reasonable salary tonight.
