Indiana Pacers

Picks: No. 50 Georges Niang

If there was one team that I didn’t see coming into the 2016 offseason as hot as they have, it’s undoubtedly the Indiana Pacers to this point. They’ve come out of the gates swinging and have been landing big punches time and again. That’s what the pulled off in a three team trade that essentially led to them trading George Hill for Jeff Teague and that’s what led them to making the most favorable trade for Thursday’s draft.

Trading a single mid-to-late first round pick for a proven veteran player like Thaddeus Young is a great move for any team and that’s what the Pacers did to take advantage of the Nets’ situation to a certain degree. What makes the move look even better though is when you consider the value of the No. 22 pick right after the pick they dealt as the Hornets got only Marco Belinelli for that selection. So to see the Pacers get Thad Young for a pick two slots ahead is a coup.

Moreover, the pick of Georges Niang is at least intriguing for Indiana. He’s a guy that has obvious flaws in his game and in his physical abilities on the basketball court. However, Niang is also a player that showed in college that he just knows how to put the ball in the cylinder and I’m excited to see what the Pacers can come up for with him. In the end, it was a big day for the Pacers and they came out smelling like roses.
