Boston Celtics

Picks: No. 3 Jaylen Brown, No. 16 Guerschon Yabusele, No. 23 Ante Zizic, No. 45 Demetrius Jackson, No. 51 Ben Bentil, No. 58 Abdel Nader

If there was one team that NBA aficionados had their eyes on coming into the 2016 NBA Draft, it was the Boston Celtics. The Celtics entered Thursday night having an absolute excess of picks in the draft and with an apparent willingness to try and make big waves. Proponents of chaos were hoping that’s what would happen.

Though the Celtics started a bit of chaos with the No. 3 overall pick, saying that they made much of an impact would be severely overstating the situation. They took Jaylen Brown with the No. 3 overall pick instead of Kris Dunn when the latter would have given them tremendous trade leverage in negotiations with the Philadelphia 76ers and the Chicago Bulls in a deal that could’ve meant Jimmy Butler.

As if that decision wasn’t bad enough, though, the Celtics then took what felt like player after player that didn’t fit naturally or that was a reach where they were taken in the first round. Though they took some intriguing names later in the second round, guys like Demetrius Jackson and Ben Bentil don’t have much of a fit at all with the Celtics. It just felt like wasted opportunities throughout the night in Boston in the worst of way.
