NBA Draft 2016: Predicting Rookie of the Year
By David Rouben
If there’s one thing that’s remained consistent in the past few drafts, it’s that UK guys that get picked by lottery teams tend to become All-Stars. Just ask Coach Cal:
Jamal Murray was a great scorer in college. While he wasn’t as consistent as others, he was capable of going off for a big performance. And playing in Calipari’s system helps make his players ready for the NBA.
Luckily for Murray, he’ll have a great backcourt partner in Emmanuel Mudiay. He didn’t have great stats last year, but just like Murray, he’s a streaky scorer who’s capable of having a big game on his own. He still has upside, and has room to develop his talents, and getting to play alongside the Canadian could potentially pay dividends for both players.
Despite a 33-49 record, the Nuggets were a team that exceeded some peoples’ expectations, and had some signature wins during the season, boasting wins over the likes of the Warriors, Clippers, and Spurs.
The Nuggets did well in the draft to acquire three picks in the first round pick, and snagging Murray will bode well for their future. Murray’s a player who can provide the Nuggets with effective three-point shooting while Mudiay can absorb rebounds with his size and wingspan. More than anything, the foundation of a great team is built upon its backcourt, and the Nuggets have a very promising one here.
