Brooklyn Nets – An owner with bottomless pockets

Although the first two teams on this list (in alphabetical order) were easy sells, we’ve reached the portion of the program where it won’t be nearly as convenient for Durant to select each team. The Brooklyn Nets are in the worst situation of any current NBA team when it comes to draft assets (see Celtics, Boston), and while there is some level of talent on the roster with Brook Lopez and Thaddeus Young, this is not a team that is set up to win right now.

Fortunately, the Nets do have an owner in Mikhail Prokhorov that is willing and able to spend gobs of money to build a winner in Brooklyn. Durant would be taking a massive leap of faith to attach himself to this organization given where it is, but Prokhorov has already accumulated a massive luxury tax bill for the team headlined by Joe Johnson, Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce, and he isn’t shy about throwing weight around.

More than anything, Durant could take solace in new Nets head coach Kenny Atkinson and general manager Sean Marks, but that isn’t nearly as sexy as Prokhorov’s deep pockets. Oh, did I mention that Brooklyn is in a major media market? Weird, I know.
